H&S Compliance
The Health and Safety Reform Bill introduces the concept of a Person Conducting a Business or Undertaking, known as a PCBU. We all have a duty of care to actively engage in health and safety matters. Not just private businesses, but all government departments (for example Schools come under Primary Duty of Care under the new laws).
It’s important that we all help in the provision of resources, advice and a call-to-action, ensuring adequate facilities and access to things like Safety Data Sheets and correctly Labelled bottles. We can assist in supporting safe working environments by ensuring customers are adequately handling and storing cleaning chemicals, even if we aren’t experts in this field.
The implications of getting it wrong are far reaching; directors and employees can now be imprisoned under the new legislation. If a director or employee is highlighted to a potential hazard, they are immediately obligated under the Act to act!
