The International Studies Abroad programme (ISA) has provided college students in the United States and Canada with the opportunity to explore the world, and over the past couple of weeks Chemical Solutions were privileged to host a student from Columbia College, Missouri, to help out with various projects in our R&D department. Our intern was a bubbly chemistry student, Kelsey Megan, who had flown out of the United States for the very first time and was very excited to see a NZ company in action. Kelsey, who stayed with us for 6 weeks, gained great exposure to the Kiwi culture and valuable work experience alongside our Chemist, Kishor.
Below are a few words from her:
“I am Kelsey, a chemistry student from the United States. I had the opportunity to complete an internship at Chemical Solutions, as an assistant laboratory technician. I wrote standard operating procedures, made sample products, did quality control tests, and did a research project.
In the beginning, I had some difficulty understanding the Kiwi accent and unusual names for common objects. However, I enjoy listening to the accent and would sometimes forget to focus on the actual words spoken. Now only occasionally do I need clarification with Kiwi lingo.
Overall, I would describe my internship as wonderful. I gained practical experience and some theoretical knowledge. In addition, I worked alongside fabulous Kiwis who taught me about their role at Kemsol and about their culture. Being a foreigner, I never felt like an outsider to the company. I hope to work for a company like Chemical Solutions someday.”
Thanks Kelsey, CSL really enjoyed having you and all the best for your future travels and educational journey!
