1. What led you to this next step in your career?
After over 20 years providing chemical and training solutions to client’s cleaning challenges in the hospitality and aged care sector, about 10 years ago I made the decision to exit and broaden my knowledge in different sectors of industry. Upon returning to Christchurch a few years ago I was keen to re-enter this sector as it had always been one, I’d enjoyed being part of. I’ve watched Chemical Solutions grow over the years so when the opportunity arose to become a member of the team it wasn’t a difficult decision to make. Chemical Solutions, being NZ owned and operated for over 30 years, big enough to make an impact yet small enough to care were big drawcards.
2. What’s one thing that’s surprised you since joining Chemical Solutions?
Every staff member I’ve interacted with, regardless of role, comes across as feeling valued, and in a role that is important to the business’ success.
3. Coffee, tea, or something else entirely?
I do like a coffee, but getting a good cup of tea seems much easier to achieve.
4. What’s a small thing that always makes your day better?
When I have a plan, and everything goes to plan.
5. What do you enjoy doing when you’re not working?
Gardening, biking, walking our dog and spending time with family
6. Do you have a hidden talent or a fun party trick?
None that I’m proud of.
7. What’s a favourite quote you live by—or the best advice you’ve ever received?
Take care of your staff, and they’ll take care of you and the business. Happy and supported employees are more engaged, leading to better customer experiences and stronger long-term relationships.
8. What’s a place that’s shaped who you are—whether it’s where you grew up, travelled to, or lived for a while?
Wesley College taught me independence, pride, and perseverance.
9. What’s one tradition or dish from your culture that you think everyone should experience at least once?
Rollmops and Olie Bollen
10. What’s your favourite song, band, or musician?
Depends on the mood but mainly 80’s and mellow
11. What’s a book, movie, or show you’d recommend—and why?
Clarkson’s Farm as its educational, real life and entertaining
12. If your calendar had one recurring, non-negotiable slot for something fun each week, what would it be?
Taking the time to enjoy a cuppa with colleagues.
