Reaching our 30th Anniversary is something special. We started as a small 3-person business with a handful of loyal customers and have grown the business steadily over time into one of the largest privately-owned chemical businesses in our sector.
As with many businesses, the key to our success has been people. We have a great team who all play a critical part in giving our customers great products when they need them. It would be unfair to start naming individuals, but we have been extremely fortunate to have such a dedicated team of past and present employees. They include talented Chemists who have developed cutting edge formulations; energetic and driven Sales, Marketing and Customer Service teams who attract and service our loyal customers, a dedicated Production and Administration team who make sure we get our products to the right place at the right time.
Our team have worked incredibly hard to rise to the occasion with challenges like Swine Flu, SARS or today’s present-day COVID challenges. We pride ourselves on doing the simple things right. It doesn’t matter who the customer is, or how big they are, they all get personal service and are genuinely appreciated for using our products. Those customers range from small businesses with 1 or 2 staff through to multinational customers who use our products all around the globe.
There is one very important person who deserves to be remembered – Peter Vaughan, our founding Chemist who passed away in 2000. He would have been very proud of how the company has grown and the ongoing development of environmentally responsible products. Way before being green was a trend, he had a passion for developing cleaning compounds from natural sources such as sugar. He was way ahead of his time.
We have outgrown three factories over the years – but all have been based in South Auckland, where most of our production team are based. In 2020, we made the decision to reach out further – opening our Christchurch Distribution Centre, to enable us to better serve our South Island customers rather than relying on the traditional interisland delivery service. That has been a real blessing over the past year with the supply chain challenges that COVID has brought.
As I look in the mirror and see a few more grey hairs than there were 30 years ago – I feel both proud and blessed to have built something so special, in partnership with so many wonderful people. Our goal was never to be the biggest, it has always been to be the best we can be. The growth has come from always keeping that philosophy in our hearts and minds. A special thank you to everyone who has shared this journey – whether that’s been a big or small part. We know we couldn’t have done it without you
